In those specific instances of Jesus's temptation, it could have been his human nature tempting him to give in.
That would be easy for me to see and believe if it weren't for the fact that I've felt evil coming off of a person in waves. It only happened once in my life, I've felt insanity, cruel intentions, selfishness, but that was the only time I knew there was actual evil as a thing of its own.
Human selfishness and self-centeredness leads to so many bad things, it's easy to think that alone could be what's wrong but I just don't know.

Thank you all for your encouragement. It means a lot to me. The Word of God is truly amazing and I continue to learn more each day.

TMinut, Reading through the Bible with a specific thought in mind is a good idea. I would be very surprised if in doing this that you would discover that Jesus was tempted by an just an analogy or a metaphor. From my reading of the Bible there is clearly an Evil one named Satan and as ROB points out in his comment the devil is prowling around looking for someone to devour (1 Peter 5:8).

About studying a verse or passage, even a concept in light of the entire scripture, that's what I keep planning to do but haven't really managed yet. I want to read the whole bible while seeing if the devil could be an analogy or a metaphor for human nature.
And yes, life is WAY more than just flesh and blood.

May we continue to be like Jesus strong in our faith in God not allowing ourselves to be convinced by the sarcastic taunts and lies of the devil. may we be so focused on the reason why we're here and and the reason why we live which is to obey his commands and glorify Him above all things!

Excellent message, and it seems like its easy for believers to be dismissive of the power of the devil to lead believers from the cross. The Bible tells us to be on guard against the devil, who is like a "prowling lion" - especially so when we become complacent and passive in our walk with the Lord. The devil leads us from prayer and causes too many distractions in life, effectively draining our walk and hindering the sanctification of the Holy Spirit in our lives.
We need to be continuously on guard and constant in prayer.

I can relate to having spent too much of my life focusing on my flesh; being selfish and self-centered. I'm so grateful for His forgiveness. Grateful that He never gives up on me.

Grateful for His Word that I can learn to live a different way.
